Paul Scoffin

Senior Rigger

Paul Scoffin is an international yachtsman and professional rigger from Auckland, New Zealand well known in the Super Yacht and America’s Cup industries.

He has traveled the world providing project coordination, stepping and commissioning of the world’s largest sailing rigs including but not limited to P2, Rebecca, Marie, Nirvana, Timoneer 2, Christopher, Ethereal, Aglaia, Hetairos, Adele, SY- A, and Drumbeat.

Paul’s America’s Cup experience began with the inaugural New Zealand Americas Cup Challenge team in 1985 for the challenge in Perth in 1987 and retained by the team for the 1992 Americas Cup Challenge in San Diego. Paul then joined Marten Marine Industries in their design and drafting department and continued his alliance with Southern Spars/ Rig-Pro after the merger. 3POPP

Paul remains active as an expert in superyacht rigs and rigging. He continues to work as a contract rigger for Southern Spars/Rig Pro. He is also a competitive dinghy sailor having won numerous regional and national tiles. Currently Paul competes in the Flying Dutchman and the 505 classes. Paul is married and lives in San Diego, Ca.

Bex Gmuer

Bex joined RigPro in 2020

She has 3 years of experience in the rigging industry.

Bex is an experienced keelboat racer and currently races a TP52 out of Auckland

She sailed aboard Maiden from Auckland to Hawaii in 2019 and has represented New Zealand in the Women’s international match racing series.

She successfully completed the 1270nm Round the North Island 2 handed race in 2020

She speaks English and German.

Andrew Cooke

Andrew joined RigPro in 2019

He has over 26 years of experience in the rigging and engineering industries.

He has previously  owned his own stainless engineering company and has constructed multiple motor boats.

He is a very experienced keelboat racer and has competed in everything from Elliot 5.9s  through to an Orma 60 Trimaran. He currently races aboard a TP52 out of Auckland.

He has 30,000 nm of  bluewater cruising and racing experience under his belt.

Gavin Ninnes

Trainee Rigger

Gavin joined RigPro in 2020

He is a keen skiff sailor and is currently competing in the 49er skiff regattas.

He trialled for the 49er Olympic team in 2020 but was pipped to the line by Burling and Tuke.

Prior to that he owned a 29er dinghy and competed in international regattas.

Alex Mitchell-Barker

Alex joined RigPro in 2019

He has 3 years of experience in the rigging industry.

He is a competitive foiling skiff sailor and is the 2020 NZ Wasp champion.

He is building his own carbon fibre foiling Moth so he can compete at  the next level.


Alexis Reeves

Alexis started his career in the marine industry back in 1998 as a boat building apprentice on the south coast of England In 2003 he relocated to New Zealand and diversified from boat building to Yacht rigging. In 2007 he joined RigPro New Zealand. During his time with RigPro he has commissioned and serviced some of the largest sailing yachts in the world.
He is a regular at all the major super yacht events, sailing and offering technical support to the fleet.

Ash Edwards

Trainee Rigger

Ash joined RigPro in 2018.

Previous to this he was working on superyachts in the refit yard of Orams Marine Services. He also worked on composite boat building projects during his school holidays. Prior to working life he spent 4 years cruising the Pacific and South East Asian regions with his family aboard their Young 50 covering 17000 nm of blue water sailing.

Ash successfully completed the 1270nm Round the North Island 2 handed race in 2020.

He actively races in multiple keel boat regattas on as many days as he can fit in.

Scott Simpson

Technical Manager

Scotty joined RigPro in 2002.

He has over 20 years of experience in the rigging service industry. He started his career working in a small rigging shop in Tauranga, New Zealand. After serving his apprenticeship he moved to Southern Rigging in Auckland which later became RigPro.

Scotty is a very experienced sailor having sailed in a huge variety of yachts including the GC32 foiling catamaran, an ORMA 60 trimaran, grand prix maxis and superyachts.

Hamish Miller

Hamish joined RigPro in 2018 but he had a long standing working relationship with RigPro. He has more than 10 years of experience in rigging services and projects including commissioning of new rigs, warranty repairs, emergency damage repairs and service maintenance. Hamish consistently provided outstanding service to customers, developing its excellent reputation in the rigging service sector.
